PURPOSE

The aim of this project is to test the efficacy of a home-based 12-week PA program in young children with and without PWS. The PA program uses games to stimulate the development of motor skills.

PARTICIPANTS

  • 15 children diagnosed with PWS, ages 4-7 years
  • 15 children without PWS, ages 4-7 years

DESCRIPTION

Participation requires five meetings: four visits to the CSUF campus and one at a location of the parent's choosing for a playdate. Parents will be trained in how to deliver the 12-week PA program at home. During the visits children will have their height and weight measured and will complete movement-related tests. Children with PWS will also complete an intelligence test. Parents will complete questionnaires and a recorded interview. Children and parents will also track their physical activity.

All materials will be given to families to do the activities at home at no cost. Incentives will be provided to both the child and parent participants as part of completing the visits and program.
